Catharine Carnes

Catharine Carnes, 65, of Andrews, IN, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at midnight at her home.

Mrs. Carnes was a 1968 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, in Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in nursing from Ohio State University and a master’s degree from Indiana University. She worked as a registered nurse and clinical nurse specialist and later as a homemaker and full-time home educator. She was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, and a Third Order Dominican, where her religious name was Sister Catharine Mary, T.O.P.

She was born Dec. 17, 1950, in Columbus, to Hubert and Marie Hummel Fry. Her mother survives in North Vernon. She married Mark Carnes on June 25, 1977, and he survives.

Additional survivors include five sons, Samuel (Hannah) Carnes, of Biloxi, MS; Gregory (Liana) Carnes, of Boise, ID; Michael (Nancy) Carnes, of Schenectady, NY; Joseph (Madeleine) Carnes, of Columbia City; and Stephen Carnes, of Andrews; three daughters, Rachel (Louis) Ullmer, of Green Bay, WI; Mary (Brad) Owens, of San Diego, CA; and Lucy Carnes, of Rockyhill, CT; two brothers, George (Jackie) Fry, of Port Clinton, OH; and Daniel (Mel) Fry, of Advance; four sisters, Bridget (Bill) Moeller, of Spring, TX; Margaret (Jerry) Tipps, of Houston, TX; Barbara (Tom) Pruitt, of Fairland; and Jennifer (Matt) King, of Fishers; and 13 grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A traditional requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 3333 E. Tillman Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.

Preferred memorials are Mass stipends to the Traditional Dominican Order in care of St. John Fisher Catholic Church.
