Gary L. Walter

Gary L. Walter, 63, of Columbia City, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at 3:02 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital.

Mr. Walter grew up in Larwill and graduated from Pierceton High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1977 until 1983, moving to Columbia City after his discharge. He worked at Dana Weatherhead for 33 years, Polywood in Syracuse for five years and currently for Night Owl Cleaning.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge 1906 and played softball for Kilgore Manufacturing for several years.

He was born March 10, 1953, in Wolf Lake to Arthur W. and Netha A. Martz Walter.

Survivors include three daughters, Marie I. (Lance) Harter, Angi M. Walter and Crystal L. (Chad Steinke) Walter, all of Columbia City; four brothers, James Walter and Stephen Walter, both of Columbia City; Randall Walter, of Huntington; and Franklin Walter, of South Whitley; four sisters, Beverly Hatfield and Margaret Kilgore, both of Columbia City; Carol Rowland, of Waynesboro, TN; and Tina Kocher, of Huntington; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Calling is Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. A service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at 1 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be at South Whitley Cemetery.
