Marjorie Gard

Marjorie Gard, 102, a long-time resident of Huntington County, IN, died Sunday morning, Dec. 4, 2016, at the home of her daughter, in Bluffton.

Mrs. Gard graduated from Jefferson Township School in 1932 and was a homemaker, living in Lancaster and Wayne townships. She was employed by Wabash Magnetics for 22 years and was a meter reader for Huntington County TEMC for many years.

She was a lifelong member of Warren United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Sisters in Faith women’s group and JOY Sunday school class. She was a charter member of the Lancaster Township Better Living Homemakers Club. She was a member of the Town and Country Home Economics Club and the Samuel Huntington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered with many organizations and charities.

She was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Jefferson Township, Huntington County, to Charles Luther and Daisie Farr Knight. She married J. Arthur Gard Sr. on Nov. 4, 1934, and he preceded her in death in February of 2012.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra (Gary) Wegenke, of DeWitt, MI; Dianne (Jim) Surfus-Burk and Cathy (Patrick) Pearson, both of Bluffton; and Jane (Edward) Polzin, of Angola; two sons, James A. (Sydney) Gard Jr., of Edmond, OK, and Charles (Cathy) Gard, of Huntington; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Gard, of Kokomo; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, in Huntington. Additional calling will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service following at 11 a.m. at the Warren United Church of Christ, 202 E. 2nd St., Warren. Rev. Scott Nedberg will officiate. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, in Warren.
