Arthur L. 'Art' Voelker

Arthur L. “Art” Voelker, 92, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family members in Markle, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Voelker graduated from North Side High School in 1942. He served two tours of duty in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for General Electric for 45 years, retiring in 1987, and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church for more than 65 years, serving several terms as congregation president and on leadership boards for the church and the school. He also served on the board of Concordia Lutheran High School for more than 20 years. After retiring from GE, he was active in the Southside Optimist Cub.

He was born July 9, 1924, in Fort Wayne to Louis and Frieda Voelker. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joann Springer Voelker.

Additional survivors include a son, Mark (Kate) Voelker, of Mishawaka; three daughters, Lori (Edwin) Schultz, of Rochester, MN; Marcia (Robert) Shriner, of Kendallville; and Amy (Joseph) Kissinger, of Markle; 10 grandchildren, Emily (Jonathan) Meyer, Tom Schultz, Bethany Schultz, Margaret Voelker, Patrick Voelker, Mary Voelker, Michael Voelker, Alicia (Brian) Fetter, Rebekah Shriner and Christa (Justin) Farrell; and three great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, with Rev. Thomas Eggold officiating. Calling is Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Rd., Fort Wayne.
