Joanne L. Pyle

Joanne L. Pyle, 84, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at 11:45 a.m. at The Heritage of Huntington.

Mrs. Pyle graduated from Huntington Catholic High School. She worked as an educational assistant at Andrews Elementary School for 13 years and as librarian at St. Mary Catholic School for 13 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality.

She was a 66-year member of Delta Theta Tau and received the Teresa McAllister Award in 2000. She was a member of the American Legion Post 7 Auxiliary and Forever Friends, had served as a Cub Scout den mother and had served as chairman of the Mothers’ March of Dimes. She was a past president of the American Cancer Society, Huntington Catholic High School Booster Club and Huntington County Women’s Club.

She was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Huntington to Lawrence and Geraldine Auker Weber.

Survivors include five sons, Alan Pyle, Dean (Teri) Pyle and Joel (Paige) Pyle, all of Huntington; and Mark (Sherie) Pyle and Kent (Ellen) Pyle, both of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Joan (Tim) Watson, of Walnut, IL, and Lori (Tim) Guy and Rise (Larry) Buzzard, both of Huntington; 16 grandchildren, Lindsey Daniels, John Watson, Andrea Watson, Michael Watson, Alicia Pyle, Taylor Pyle, Colin Pyle, Evan Pyle, Dustin DuPriest, Jennifer DuPriest, Adam Pyle, Amanda Koschmann, Alexandra Rosenfeld, Ryan Pyle, Max Pyle and Helena Pyle; 11 great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, March 1, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 2 p.m., at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Rev. Stephen Colchin will preside. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.
