Cedric L. 'Cid' Prather

Cedric "Cid" L. Prather, 88, of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 2:02 p.m. at the Tipton House in Huntington.

Mr. Prather graduated from Banquo High School in 1940 and served with the United States Air Force during World War II. He retired from the Air Force as a major in 1981 after serving 39 years. He had also been employed as an over-the-road driver for Yellow Freight Transit in Huntington for more than 26 years. He was a member of New Life Fellowship Church, American Legion Post 7 and Eagles lodge, all in Huntington.

He was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Howard County to Harvey and Tressie Stewart Prather. He married Mildred "Mickey" Loudenback, and she preceded him in death. He married Betty E. Pinkerton on Nov. 25, 1979, at the Central Christian Church in Huntington; she preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2009.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Susan) Prather, of Bartow, FL; two stepsons, Rick (Carole) Sell, of Leo, and Jerry (Diana) Sell, of Ossian; four sisters, Deloris Schoenlein, of Urbana; Lorena King, of Sebring, FL; Donna Ann (Dick) Nusbaum, of Coleman, MI; and Lois (Joe) Hacker, of Huntington; eight stepgrandchildren; and 22 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A service will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010, at noon, with calling from 10 a.m. to noon, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Rev. Jimi Stanton will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County, with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689 conducting military rites.
