LaVerne L. Ewert, 90, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family members in Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 6:33 p.m. at Coventry Meadows Assisted Living, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Ewert was a former resident of Columbia City and had lived at Coventry Meadows since November 2007. She attended Luther Institute in Fort Wayne and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a professional seamstress, owned and operated Knitting Machine Nook in Fort Wayne and taught sewing.
She was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Fort Wayne to Arno and Alma Schmidt Stein. She married Noel E. Ewert on June 26, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2006.
Survivors include three daughters, Dora-Lee Duckworth, of Granby, CO; Nola-Kay (Charles) Jetmore, of Roanoke; and Beth-Ann (Mike) Welch, of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Arno Stein Jr., of New Haven; a sister, Wanda Shumaker, of Wolcottville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A service was held Monday, March 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Rev. Ross O'Dell officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
Preferred memorials are gifts to Trinity Presbyterian Church or Southern Care Hospice.
