David A. Finton, 66, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Progressive Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Finton worked with in the district construction department of the Indiana Department of Transportation in Fort Wayne for 43 years, retiring as a project supervisor on Aug. 8, 2008. He worked on many construction projects throughout northeast Indiana, including the rehabilitation of the J. Edward Roush Dam in 2004 and most recently the resurfacing of Ind.-124 from Ind.-5 to Ind.-9.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Huntington, since 2001 and was previously a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. He coached Little League and Pony League teams with Huntington County Baseball for 22 years.
He was born June 29, 1943, in Kosciusko County to Gusta and Vera Logan Finton. He married Janet S. Markley on Dec. 10, 1966, at the First Baptist Church in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Patty (Randy) Allen, Robyn Osborne and Tabitha (Rick) Hall, all of Huntington, and Shelly (Ken) Griffin, of Monroe, MI; two sons, Chris Finton and Brian Finton, both of Huntington; four brothers, Bill (Betty) Finton, Harold (Sandy) Finton and Richard Finton, all of Huntington, and Jim (Ruth) Finton, of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, March 10, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd. Rev. Kevin Dunlop will officiate. Interment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
