Troy L. Rains

Troy L. Rains, 83, of Roanoke, IN, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at 4:19 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Rains worked at Master Electric in Dayton for 13 years. He later worked as a crane mechanic for American Hoist for 23 years and at Spandek Crane Manufacturing in Franklin, TN for 13 years, from where he retired in 1997.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge 823 in Huntington and American Legion Post 241 in Waynedale. His band, “Troy & the Indiana Three” played together for 30 years.

He was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Williamsburg, KY, to Robert L. and Mary Belle Powers Rains. He married his wife, Pauline, on Oct. 25, 1952, in Dayton, OH; she preceded him in death on May 22, 2003.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. Rains, of Huntington; a daughter, Tammy (Tim) Day, of Huntington; a sister, Phyllis Jean (Jerry) Griffith, of West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Bev Rains, of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Tiffanney (Adam) Drummond, Amanda (Alonzo) Wallace, Troy R. Rains, Taylor Day and Kari Rains; six great-grandchildren; and a companion, Thelma Wiegmann, of Roanoke.

Calling is Friday, March 31, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 10 a.m., at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington. Rev. Marti Lundy will officiate. Burial will be in Markle Cemetery in Huntington County.
