Larry E. Bassett, 77, of Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Bassett retired in 1990 from White Auto Corp and was a bus driver for Fort Wayne Community Schools from 1992 to 2002. He was a member of Monson Chapel United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke.
While serving in the Navy, he attended the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School and served aboard the USS Gilbert Islands, CVE-107 and with the SeaBees MCB 1.
He was born July 23, 1932, in Fort Wayne to Donal and Olive Bassett. His wife, Susie E. V. Bassett, preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Anita (Wade) DeSelm, of Fort Wayne; three sons, Steven (Brenda) Bassett, of Huntington; Mark A. Bassett, of Columbia City; and Brian (Kathy) Bassett, of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Calling is Sunday, March 21, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 10, with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Terry McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens, with military honors from the American Legion Post 160.
Memorials may be made to the Monson Chapel United Methodist Church, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, Cancer Free Lungs or the American Diabetes Association.
