John S. Stouffer

John S. Stouffer, 77, of Lagro, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at 6:14 p.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Stouffer had worked at Celotex in Lagro for 45 years, retiring in 1997. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and had been a member of American Legion Post 248, Lagro, for more than 50 years.

He was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Wabash County to Mahlon and Pauline Karns Stouffer. He married Reba Beeks on July 3, 1952, at the Dora Christian Church. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Rod (Lora) Stouffer, Rick Stouffer and Roger (Frances) Stouffer, all of Lagro; a daughter, Rita (Lee) Smith, of Lagro; a sister, Judith Sellers, of Wabash; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Shelton, Austin Smith and Kaelea Stouffer, all of Lagro; Lisa Stouffer, of Huntington; Rebecca (Jeremy) Elzy, of Fortville, Brad Stouffer and Tabbitha Simon, both of Wabash; and Tammy Stouffer, of Fishers; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with Jeremy Elzy officiating. Burial was at Lagro Cemetery.
