James E. 'Jim' Slaughter

James E. “Jim” Slaughter, 87, of Warren, IN, and a long-time Bluffton, IN, farmer, died Friday evening, July 21, 2017, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Slaughter graduated from Converse High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton, and later attended Solid Rock United Methodist Church in Warren.

He was born March 7, 1930, in Converse to Herman Clay and Jessie P. Louderback Slaughter. He married Jinny Bly on Aug. 15, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2005. He married Margaret Ann Brauchla on March 25, 2006, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters Amy (Larry) Palmer, of rural Marion; Ann (Lance) Wygant, of Bluffton; and Susan (Keith) Basting, of Jackson, WI; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. at Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe in Warren, and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. A service of celebration will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at  10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with calling for one hour prior. Gerald O. Moreland and Jeff Lemler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Garden of Chimes, Elm Grove Cemetery, in Bluffton with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
