Melvin D. Day

Melvin Dean Day, 86, of rural Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Day attended school in Bluffton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 504 AIR. He received a National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 111.

He retired in 1989 from General Electric, where he had worked for more than 30 years.

He was born June 17, 1931, in Kansas City, MO. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Uhl Day.

Additional survivors include four sons, Mark (Cindy) Day, of Channahon, IL; Michael (Sherry) Day and Matt (Marcia) Day, both of Ossian; and Mitchell (Karen) Day, of St. John; six grandchildren, Julie (Michael) Meredith, Jennifer (Matthew) Krumma, Erica (Bryan) Castellani, Heather Day, Melanie (Giancarlo) Alpuche and Michael Day; and nine great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 W. Mill St., Ossian. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 4 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lindenwood Cemetery.
