Donald G. Robbins

Donald G. Robbins, 85, of Goshen, and formerly of Huntington County, died Dec. 4, 2008, at 3:45 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Robbins retired from Hoosier Metal Fabricators in Gas City, where he was also part-owner. While there, he worked on engine parts for one of the first space shuttles. Prior to working at Hoosier Metal Fabricators, he worked at Alloy Products, Crosley Motors and Chrysler Motors.

Mr. Robbins was an Army Air Force veteran and had served in the Pacific Theater of World War II with the 434th Troop Carrier Group 66th Squadron, stationed in Guam and the Philippines.

He was a 1942 graduate of Marion High School.

He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Huntington County, to Benjamin and Dessie Searles Robbins. He married Phyllis Lutz on June 3, 1952. His wife survives.

Other survivors include a son, Gary Robbins, of Albion; a daughter, Beth Bontrager, of Goshen; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Dec. 6, 2008, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, Marion, with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial was at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
