Tommy F. Sawyer

Tommy F. Sawyer, 82, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 18, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Sawyer graduated from Bluffton High School in 1953. He worked as a meat cutter in the Bluffton area for 25 years. He had also worked as a truck driver, driving for Trans Fleet Inc. He retired in 2000. He was a member of Moose Lodge 242 in Bluffton.

He was born June 8, 1935, in Bluffton to Dana F. and Dessie M. Goldsberry Sawyer. He married Betty A. Gish in January of 1954, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 1993. He married “Nellie” Louise Thompson on July 30, 1997, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam (Terry) Liddy, of Bluffton; three sons, Dave (Charlotte) Sawyer and Jeff Sawyer, both of Bluffton, and Mike (Lisa) Sawyer, of Indianapolis; two stepsons, Steven (Cheryl) Thompson and Paul (Victoria) Thompson, both of Huntington; two stepdaughters, Deb (Rod) Mossburg, of Liberty Center, and Tammy Sumwalt, of Geneva; a brother, William Sawyer, of Bluffton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Jeff Lemler will officiate. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery, Bluffton.
