Marilyn 'Jean' Stone

Marilyn “Jean” Stone, 90, of North Manchester, IN, and having family members in Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 5:25 a.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Stone graduated from Wabash High School in 1945. She attended Manchester College for two years and graduated from Lutheran School of Nursing in 1950. She worked as a registered nurse and in-service education director at Dukes Memorial Hospital, in Peru, and taught at the Upper Wabash Vocational School (now Heartland Career Center), in Wabash. She later served on the Timbercrest Resident Board.

She played bassoon for two years with both the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Wayne Symphony Orchestra. She had been a member and deacon of the Peru Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren after moving to North Manchester in 1991. She was a member of the Wabash Genealogical Society, North Manchester Historical Society and Wabash County Retired Teachers’ Association.

She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Akron, OH, to Galen and Mabel McClintock Kintner. She married Donald Thomas Stone on May 27, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2011.

Survivors include two sons, Karl (Elaine) Stone, of Medina, OH, and Jon (Sandra) Stone, of Emerald Isle, NC; four daughters, Beverly (Charles) Malooley, of Bloomington; Kathryn (Charles) McCarty, of Avon; Edith Stone, of North Manchester; and Jill (Richard) Spenner, of Roanoke; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a service following at 11 a.m., at the Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 N. Beckley St., North Manchester. Karen Eberly, Kurt Borgmann and Jim Chinworth will officiate. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery, near Lagro.
