Donald E. Scheiber

Donald E. Scheiber, 91, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at 12:25 a.m. at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.

Mr. Scheiber graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1944 and attended Huntington University. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

He retired as president and chief executive officer of Our Sunday Visitor, Inc. and chairman of the board of Noll Printing Company, Inc. on March 31, 1991. He became president of OSV in 1982. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of OSV from 1983 until retiring in August 2002.

Mr. Scheiber was a founding director of the Huntington Heritage Foundation, which is now the Huntington County Community Foundation, and on the board of directors of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce, the Huntington County Hospital Foundation, the Pathfinders Foundation, the YMCA and the Huntington College Foundation. He was a member of the Huntington Economic Development Commission. He was also a member of Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Third Degree and Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington.

He was born March 22, 1926, in Huntington to Donald A. and Martha B. Ambler Scheiber. He married Lou Rayne Stump on Jan 29, 1949, in Roanoke, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2010.                                                     
Survivors include a son, Fred D. (Becky) Scheiber, of Huntington; a daughter, Kathleen A. (Thomas) Smith, of Huntington; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary service immediately following at 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, with one hour of calling prior to the service. Rev. Tony Steinacker and Monsignor Owen Campion will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
