Rev. Thomas Lombardi

Rev. Thomas Lombardi, 68, Fort Wayne, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Dec. 28, 2017.

Rev. Lombardi was a retired priest of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Meinrad College in 1971. In 1974 he received his Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL. Ordained in 1975, Rev. Lombardi served at Saint Mary, Huntington, while also assigned as assistant diocesan director of religious education and chaplain/faculty of Huntington Catholic High School. Later he was appointed principal of Huntington Catholic High School.

After a year at Saint Joseph Parish, Mishawaka, and a time of study in Europe, he was appointed pastor of Saint Louis Besancon in 1986. He also served as pastor of Saint Joseph Church, Garrett, and Saint Joseph Church, Hessen Cassel. He was a past chaplain of the Fort Wayne Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. During his tenure at St. Joseph in Garrett, he oversaw the renovation of the church building and helped to establish the Saint Martin’s Health Clinic and Saint Martin’s Soup Kitchen in Garrett. He also raised, bred and rescued cocker spaniels.

He was born May 31, 1949, in Fort Wayne to Anthony and Dorothy Cambray Lombardi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. with calling one hour prior to the service, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S. Clinton St., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Divine Mercy Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, is in charge of arrangements.
