Donald O. 'Sarge' Patmore

Donald Otto “Sarge” Patmore, 90, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at 5:30 a.m. at his home.
    
Mr. Patmore attended Coupeville High School before enlisting in the United States Merchant Marines and later joining the United States Army. His military career spanned World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, during which he was a platoon sergeant. He was elected coroner in Spencer County and also served as a deputy sheriff. He managed the campground at Holiday World in Santa Claus.

He was a member of American Legion Post 7 and VFW Post 2689, both in Huntington, and was a 42nd degree Mason.

He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Coupeville, WA, to Charles Frederick and Gladys Amelia Haaff Patmore. He married Maurine Holmes, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1977. His second marriage was to Patricia Jane, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2015.
    
Survivors include a son, Donald M. (Kim) Patmore, of Huntington; a daughter, Joni M. Sharkey, of Huntington; a stepdaughter, Deborah Ann (David) Brink Evans, of Rockport; and six grandchildren, Michael R. (Stacey) Patmore, of Fort Wayne; Donnie J. Patmore, of Huntington; Brendan P. Sharkey, of Bloomington; Tiffany S. Partridge, of Rockport; Tessa A. (Clint) Johnson, of Santa Claus; and McKenzie Haneline, of West Lafayette.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Patrick “Pat” Sharkey.

Calling is Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the mortuary, with Rev. Mike Hill officiating and military rites performed by VFW Post 2689 of Huntington. A memorial will be placed in Little Pigeon Church Cemetery at a later date.
