Joann S. Morgan

Joann Sue Morgan, 74, of Columbia City, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at Miller's at Oak Pointe.

Mrs. Morgan graduated from Warren High School. She and her husband lived in several communities in the area before moving to Whitley County in 1976. She and her husband then moved to Calhan, CO, but after her husband died, Mrs. Morgan moved back to Columbia City in the mid 2000s. Along with being a homemaker, she worked for at Whitley County Hospital, Calhan Housing Authority and the Hallmark store in Columbia City before it closed.

She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church. She participated in a cancer survivor group, the Red Hatters, Midweek Meals, Relay for Life and helping with Hats for the Homeless.

She was born Nov. 23, 1943, in Huntington to Deloise and Emma Amelia LaVine Earhart. She married William Morgan in Warren on Feb. 24, 1962, and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (Christina) Morgan, of Columbia City, and Boston "Andy" Morgan, of Colorado; daughter, Kelli Friend, of West Virginia; a sister, Sandy (Dale) Barkey, of Columbia City; a brother, Richard (Teresa) Earhart, of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren, Joel Morgan, Lydia Morgan, Pamela Todd, Amanda Todd-Campbell, Emily Morgan, Campbell Morgan, Tyler Friend, Sara Friend, Brittney Brown and Tabatha Green; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Traci Todd, in 1997.

Calling is Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A funeral service will be held immediately following, with Rev. Fred Stayton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Warren.
