Lawrence L. 'Shorty' Guenin

Lawrence L. "Shorty" Guenin, 92, of rural LaFontaine, IN, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Guenin had farmed in Grant and Wabash counties. He was a member and past Worshipful Master of LaFontaine Lodge 295 F&AM, a worthy patron of Eastern Star, and a member of Metosinia Lodge 533 of I.O.O.F. He was a 1935 graduate of LaFontaine High School and had previously lived in the Sweetser and Van Buren areas.

He was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Grant County to Oren and Elsie Weaver Guenin. He married Marguerite Troyer on Aug. 17, 1940, in Mishawaka. His wife survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Oren (Rita) Guenin, of Marion, and Mark (Diane) Guenin, of Wabash; a daughter, Jean (Larry) Wright, of LaFontaine; a brother, John (Wilma) Guenin; two sisters, Isabel Guenin Ford and Betty Guenin; nine grandchildren, Steve, Jeff and Laura Guenin; Alicia O'Roark; Paul and Tom Wright; Emily Guenin-Hodson; Natalie Unger and Lindsey Jones; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A service was held Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Wabash. Burial was at the LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
