David C. Mays

David Cyril Mays, 83, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family in Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.

Mr. Mays retired from Kroger after 41 years and was a member of Teamsters 414.  He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was born in Fort Wayne to Henry and Estella Mays.  He married Carol Ida Bremer 65 years ago, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Gwendolyn “Gwen” (Roger) Sipe, of Huntington; Kathleen “Kathy” Douglas and Beth Ann Coe, both of Fort Wayne; three sons, Joel (Terrie) Mays, of Roanoke; Michael “Mike” (Kim) Mays, of Fort Wayne; and Robert Mays, of Auburn; three brothers, Kenneth Mays, of California; Paul Mays, of Florida; and Steve Mays, of Michigan; two sisters, Beverly Hewitt of Brazil; and Phyllis Bush, of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, Andrew Sipe, Allison Shaulis, Aaron Sipe, Orion Mays, Cale Mays, Laura Stegall, Jared Douglas, Jeffrey Coe, Nicole Mays, Amber Mays, Lee Mays, Clint Mays and Kyle Mays; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Craig Douglas; a daughter-in-law, Terrie L. (Williams) Mays; and a granddaughter, Sarah Douglas.

Calling is Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens.
