Wilford B. Baumgartner

Wilford B. Baumgartner, 87, of Bluffton, IN, and having family in Roanoke, IN, died Friday evening, Oct. 12, 2018, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Baumgartner retired in 1995 from Art Iron Steel Co. as a truck driver. He attended Bluffton First Church of the Nazarene. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 and served until 1957.

He was born in Adams County on Nov. 6, 1930, to Emil H. and Ida Jane Lash Baumgartner Sr. He married Mildred D. Schaefer on July 1, 1952, in Santa Maria, CA, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Joe (Katherine) Baumgartner, of Roanoke,  and Del (Mary) Baumgartner, of Encinitas, CA; two sisters, Flossie (John) Gabel, of Columbia City, and Bernice Sipe, of Portland; four grandchildren, David (Tammy) Baumgartner, Angela (Kevin) Thompson, John (Swati) Baumgartner and Jacquelyn Baumgartner; and five great grandchildren, Dylan Baumgartner, Grant Baumgartner, Kassidy Thompson, Bryce Thompson and Ava Baumgartner.

Calling is Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Goodwin–Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220E-Ind. 124, Bluffton. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., with one hour of visitation prior to the service, at the Bluffton First Church of the Nazarene, 1575 Clark Ave. Bluffton. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by the United States Army Honor Guard in conjunction with the Roanoke American Legion Post 160.
