Joan R. Klenke

Joan Retha Klenke, 88, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family in Huntington County IN, died Saturday, Dec.1, 2018.

Mrs. Kenke graduated from Central High School in 1948. She worked for Fort Wayne Paint and Wallpaper Company, then Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. In 1991 she retired from the office of Dr. Gregory Stouder after 20 years of service. After a short retirement she worked for Lutheran Hospital in telecommunications for12 years, finally retiring from there in 2010.

She was a member of Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1964. She volunteered at Mount Calvary Lutheran School as the secretary in the late 1960s. She was elected as vice president and president of both the Parent Teacher League and the church's ladies auxiliary. She was a member of the choir for more than 40 years and served over 30 years on the Alter Guild. She was a school board member. She was a cancer survivor for 11 years.

She was born to James and Alma Vanhorn Snyder. Her husband of 68 years, Charles W. Klenke Jr., survives.

Additional survivors are three daughters, Dianne Diehl, of Huntington; Patricia (John) Norris, of Roanoke; and Jennifer (Mark) Christlieb, of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Dawn (Scott) Anders and Christopher (Angela) Diehl, both of Huntington; David (Kara) Roth, of Fort Stewart, GA; and James (Keitra Duff) Roth, of Fort Wayne; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son Richard Wayne Klenke, and a grandson, Andrew Richard Roth.

Calling is Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 pm.. to 8 p.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1819 Reservation Drive, Fort Wayne. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the church, with one hour of calling before the service. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Memorials are to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Visiting Nurse or Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center.
