Rowena L. Norwood, 95, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at 9:20 p.m. at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Mentone to Walter and Pearl Davis Lackey. She married Jerry Norwood on Aug. 14, 1968, in Tucson, AZ, and he survives.
Mrs. Norwood graduated from Mentone High School and spent a year at the Butler University Music Conservatory. She then earned a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College and went on to earn a master’s degree in special education from St. Francis College. Her special education teaching career of 33 years included 17 years for the Huntington County Community School Corporation, as well as years working with the children of Kosciusko, Wabash and Whitley County schools before she retired in 1985. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2689 Auxiliary and a member of American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke. She was a member of Huntington Moose Lodge 827 and both the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Vickie (Robert R. “Bob”) Busian, of Fort Wayne, and Talinda (Rob) Morrow and Cynthia (Dan) Killion, both of Bloomington; a son, Ben Beard, of Bloomington; two stepdaughters, Kathy (Larry) Burd and Linda (Dave) Spindler, both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Calling is Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will follow immediately after at noon. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
