John A. Porter

John A. Porter, 82, of rural Wabash, IN, and having family in Huntington County, IN, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at 9:31 a.m., at Miller's Merry Manor West in Wabash.

Mr. Porter worked as a pipe fitter at General Tire in Wabash for 20 years, and 25 years at Chrysler in Kokomo, retiring in 1997. He attended Christian Heritage Church in Wabash.

He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Auxier, KY, to Gordon and Mary Sluss Porter. He first married Karthryn J. Easterday on Aug. 21, 1953, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 1983. He then married Imogene McClish on Dec. 14, 1992, and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2018.

He is survived by two sons, John J. (Karen) Porter and Dennis Porter, both of Somerset; Janet Porter and Judy (Ron) Bradford, both of Warren; two sisters, Mary Sue (Jim) Fields, of Roann, and Patsy Mahan, of Wabash; eight grandchildren, John Joseph Porter Jr. and Alex (Jericho) Bradford, both of Huntington; Jeremy (Jessah) Porter, of Whitehouse, OH; Angela Porter, of Somerset; Katy (David) Haisley, of Gas City; and Jared Bradford, Lucas Donovan and Marcus Donovan, all of Warren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Porter, and a daughter, Linda Porter.

Calling is Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Christian Heritage Church, 2776 River Rd., Wabash, with Rev. Tim Prater and Rev. Charlie Easterday officiating. An hour of calling will precede the service. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
