Jackie “Jack” Ashley, 85, of Marion, IN, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at 1:05 a.m. at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center in LaFontaine.
Mr. Ashley was a Korean War veteran who served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He achieved the rank of corporal and earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Korea Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He worked at General Motors, where he was a member of the UAW, and retired after 45 years.
He was born Sept. 5, 1933, in Smithsboro, KY, to Herman and Mary Adams Ashley. He married Genia M. Smith on Sept. 14, 1953, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Brenda (George) Todd, of Marion, and Lisa Hoke, of Jonesboro; a son, Gary Ashley, of Noblesville; eight grandchildren, Michael Todd, Stephanie (Anthony) Laws, Rachel (Jordan) Ashley, Megan Ashley, Jessica Hoke, Kelci Hoke, Austin Hoke and Elijah Hoke; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Greg Hoke.
Calling is Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a funeral service following immediately after at 1 p.m., at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Rev. Alex Mandura will be officiating, with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
