Ernest B. Ashba

Ernest Bruce 'Ernie' Ashba Sr., 72, of Wabash, IN, and having family in Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at 5:55 p.m., at his daughter's home in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Ashba retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation in 1995 after more than 20 years of employment. He was also a truck driver and drove a bus for the Dallas Winchester Senior Center in Wabash.

He was born March 10, 1946, in Anderson to Andrew Jackson and Inez Lucille Redding Ashba. He married Mary Bryant in Wabash on Sept. 14, 1979, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Lora (Grant) Acker, of Fort Wayne; two sons, Bruce Ashba and Eric (Amy) Ashba, both of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Derek (Amanda) Hinrichsen, of Columbia, MO; Brittany (Mike) McNally and Kyleigh (Justin) Chambers, both of LaFontaine; Justin Acker and Mackenzie (Dereck) Warner, both of Fort Wayne; Damien (Jocelyn) Ashba, of Huntington; Matthew (Alexa) Owen, of Amboy; and Nathan Owen, of Bunker Hill; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ashba.

Calling is Wedneday, Jan. 23, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash.  A funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Dr. Kent Young officiating.

Memorials are to the 700 Club or the Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
