David J. Harris

David J. Harris, 72, of Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 7:23 p.m. at Shipshewana Lake in Shipshewana.

Mr. Harris was a 1966 graduate of Huntington High School. He began work in drafting at Utrad Corporation in Huntington. He worked in Fort Wayne as an engineering designer at Magnavox Company for 10 years and at Tokheim Corporation as a senior-level designer for 23 years before retiring from Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems in Huntington in 2013. While at Tokheim, he received a United States patent for his Vapor Recovery Fuel Nozzle Deflector design.

He was a past member of Roanoke Lions Club and served on the Roanoke Town Council in the 1980s.
     
He was born March 4, 1947, in Huntington to Kenneth J. and Virginia E. Ancil Harris. He married Janet C. Sunday on Aug. 29, 1971, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington, and she survives in Roanoke.

Additional survivors include a son, Christopher T. (Tsipporah) Harris, and three grandchildren, Elliott Harris, Emma Harris and Andrew Harris.

Calling is Saturday, April 27, 2019, from noon to 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Community Church, 12222W US-24, Fort Wayne. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Robert Bruce officiating.
