Leo H. Scheer

Leo H. Scheer, 95, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at The Heritage Pointe of Huntington.
Mr. Scheer graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1942. Scheer served three years in the United States Navy during World II. He fought both in the Pacific and European Theatre of War. As a medic, he received the D-Day Veteran medal and the French Croix de Guerre medal.  He was a bricklayer and contractor and was the owner of L. N. Scheer & Sons for 40 years and worked at Erie Stone Co. for 10 years.   

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Post 7, V.F.W. Post 2689, past president and past secretary of Huntington Metro Kiwanis Club, a charter member of the World War II Museum in New Orleans and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

He was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Huntington, to Leo N. and Naomi Ruth Mygrant Scheer.  He married Dagmar E. Carlson in 1948, and  she preceded him in death on May 26, 1982.

Calling is Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington.  Recitation of the Rosary will follow the calling at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, with Rev. Stephen Colchin presiding. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
