David J. Keasling

David Jeffrey Keasling, 65, of Van Buren, IN, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at 4:25 p.m.
 
Mr. Keasling graduated from Marion High School in 1973. After high school he held multiple jobs and then moved to Tampa, FL, where he worked in a hospital emergency room. He then moved to Sioux City, IA, and continued working in the medical field. He was the assistant pastor at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle while living in Sioux City. He moved to Ottumwa, IA, in 1990, where he was the assistant pastor at Lively Stone in Ottumwa. He moved his family back to Indiana in 1997 and begin working at the Grant County Juvenile Detention Center in 2000, and he retired from there in March 2019.

He was an active member of the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department for the past 15 years and served as chaplain for the past 13.
 
He was born March 15, 1954, in Pontiac, MI,  to William Moore and Charlene Sisk Keasling and stepfather Eldon (Ray) Keasling. He married Rebecca “Becky” Scott on June 3, 1979, and she survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Mandi (Ben Foster) Ehmer, of Alexandria, and Priscilla (Jeff) Alter, of Marion; a son, David R. (Nicole) Keasling, of Van Buren; two brothers, Alan Keasling and Thomas Keasling, both of Marion; a sister, Dawn (Justin) Thornington, of Holly, MI; seven grandchildren, Shafaron (Tia) Box, Austin Maritime-Ehmer, KayLynne Maritime-Ehmer, Mickaylah Keasling, Cole Keasling, Edward Keasling and Breanna Maritime-Ehmer, three great-grandchildren.
 
Calling is Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Van Buren Church of the Nazarene, 305 S. First St. Van Buren. A service of ceelbration will follow immediately after at 1 p.m., with Rev. Jeremy Taylor, Rev. Jeff Slater and Rev. Sandra Greenberg officiating.
 
Memorials are to Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department, Van Buren Church of the Nazarene or Jesus Fellowship Family Church, Marion.
