Robert P. Bir

Robert P. Bir, 97, of Huntington, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at Tipton Place in Huntington.

Mr. Bir graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1941. He was a member of the United States Merchant Marines and served during World War II as an oiler. He was stationed in North Africa, Panama Canal and the South Pacific. He was a carver for Bircraft for more than 50 years.

He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, VFW 2689 and a third degree member of Knights of Columbus 1014.

He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Huntington to Frank X. and Margaret C. Hesting Bir. He married Marilyn J. Weinley on April 23, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 2000.

Surviving are a son, Michael Bir, of Huntington, and a brother, Mark Bir, of Euclid, OH.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, fat SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, with Rev. Stephen Colchin presiding. Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington.

McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.
