Roy E. Sandlin

Roy E. Sandlin, 87, of Huntington, IN, died at Friday, March 13, 2009, at 5:40 p.m. at the Norwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Huntington.

Mr. Sandlin was a machine gunner for the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a letter carrier for the Huntington Post Office, retiring in 1980 after 34 years of service. He was a lifetime member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 2689, a past master of the Amity Lodge 40&8, a member of the York Rite Chapter 27, the Hapzim Shrine Club and the Little 500, all of Huntington. Mr. Sandlin was also a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke, Disabled American Veterans and the Mizpah Shrine, the latter two both in Fort Wayne.

He was born May 29, 1921, in Cincinnati, OH, to Morris and Olivia Banks Sandlin. He married Karen Sue Smith on Aug. 29, 1970. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Terry) Barrus and Carol (John) Falk, both of Huntington, and Patricia Hobbs, of Fort Wayne; two sons, Michael Wayne (Amy) Sandlin and Troy J. (Karen) Sandlin, both of Huntington; a stepmother, Mary Russell, of Fort Wayne; a stepsister, Sharon (Curt) Par, of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, with Rev. Bob Bothast officiating. Burial was in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
