Lucille Peterson Welch

Lucille Peterson Welch, 97, formerly of Kimmell, IN, and having family in Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at 12:45 a.m. at Lutheran Life Villages, inFort Wayne

Mrs. Welch graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1940. She served in the United States Marine Corps as a military police officer at the USO in Oceanside, CA. she attended Kansas State University and moved back to Fort Wayne in the early 1950s. She worked at Bowmar later at GTE before retiring from the latter in 1987 after 23 years. In 1994, she and her husband moved from Fort Wayne to Kimmell.

She had been a member of North Webster United Methodist Church and belonged to the Lakeland Quilt Club, Nimble Thimble Quilt Club and Indiana State Quilt Guild.

She was born March 9, 1922, in Fort Wayne to Fernando and Lucinda VanAuman Crick. She married William H. Welch on Oct. 23, 1964, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include five daughters, Nancy Peterson, Nancy (Joseph Jr.) Freiburger and Linda (Michael) Bailey, all of Kimmell; Barb (Ronald) Cole, of Evansville; and Darlene Bolden, of Fort Wayne; two sons, Fred (Catherine) Peterson and John (Deb) Peterson, both of Fort Wayne; a sister, Barb Willour, of Huntington; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andrea Bolden.

Calling is Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at 2 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at 7 p.m.
