Lois L. Herring

Lois L. Herring, having ties to Van Buren, IN, died May 28, 2020.

Mrs. Herring graduated from Van Buren High School in 1945. She was initially a homemaker  until she went to work at Dutchmaid Inc. She became an Indiana state manager for Dutchmaid until her first retirement. She would retire four more times from various retail stores and finally from the Hostess House in Marion. She was a member of the Marion Numismatics Club since the late 1950s and the American Legion Auxiliary since its inception after World War II.  She volunteered  teaching adult literacy.  She attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and Center Chapel previously. She attended the Joy Club at the Methodist Church in Van Buren.

She was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Morristown, NJ, to Alfred “Shorty” and Julia Lewis. She was married to James Riley Ruble Jr., and he preceded her in death after 32 years. She later married Paul J. Herring, and he survives.

She is also survived by two sons, Jon A. (Penny) Ruble, of Akron, and William G. (Tina) Ruble, of Hamilton, OH; three daughters, Karen E. (Charles) Burton, of Palm Dessert, CA; Jayne E. Ruble, of Erlanger, Ky; and Patty L. (Rick) Tedder, of Marion; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, June 2, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 S. Washington St., Marion. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Barton officiating. Covid-19 restrictions set by Gov. Eric Holcomb will be followed. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 9 a.m. at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion.
