Wyatt Alexander Schmaltz

Wyatt Alexander Schmaltz, 9, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, July 24, 2020, at 10:54 p.m., at his home, after battling cancer for over six years.

Wyatt attended Horace Mann Elementary School and was a member of Cub Scout Troop 3607. In 2014 at the age of three, he was appointed the youngest Sheriff Deputy in the United States.

Wyatt was born Jan. 17, 2011, to Joseph M. and April D. Runyan Schmaltz, and they survive in Huntington.

Additional survivors include two brothers, Deacon M. Schmaltz and Caden J. Schmaltz, both of Huntington; maternal grandparents, Michele Runyan, of Huntington, and John Runyan, of Kokomo; and paternal grandparents, Gerald and Michelle Schmaltz, of Huntington.

Calling will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2020, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Tony Steinacker officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Those in attendance are asked to follow local recommendations for face coverings and social distancing during all events.
