Ray E. Davis

Ray E. Davis, 90, of Marion, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Marion General Hospital.

Mr. Davis was a graduate of Lancaster High School. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award and World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed as an aide with the Veterans Affairs Northern Indiana Health Care Systems and retired as a custodian for Evans School, part of the Marion Community Schools.

He was born July 4, 1918, in Huntington County to Ira S. and Mary Tumbleson Davis. He married Mildred L. Johnson on Aug. 17, 1940. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Sherry L. Davis, of Marion, and RaGena J. (Paul) Mittan, of Warren; and two sisters, Bernice Schweikhardt and Dorothy Burry, both of Warren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel. Dr. Thomas Mansbarger officiated. Burial, with graveside military honors, was at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
