Robert L. “Bob” Wisel

Robert L. “Bob” Wisel, 94, of Roanoke, IN, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at Sage Bluff Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.  

Mr. Wisel graduated from Lafayette Center High School in 1944. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 and served until 1947.  He was a machine operator and toolmaker at Dana Corp. for 39 years. He was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke, and was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge F&AM 195 in Roanoke, where he served as Master in 1982. He was involved with Mizpah Shrine, where he was active in the Hospital Unit and Roanoke American Legion Post 160.

He was born April 6, 1926, in Arcola, to Louis and Gertrude VanMeter Wisel. He married Mary Lou Fox in February of 1950, and she preceded him in death in February of 1979. He then married Joan Myers Crow in September of 1979, and she preceded him in death in January of 2019.

Survivors include three daughters, Holly (Dave) Tarr, of Roanoke, Sherry (Jim Pepple) Haag, of Fort Wayne, and Amy (Glenn) Kite, of Fort Wayne; a son, Dan (Kathleen) Wisel, of Roanoke; four stepchildren, Linda (Joe) Hoch, Patti (Rick) Fritz, Karen (Mike) Switzer and Debbie Sutton, all of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Calling will be held Monday, Aug. 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deal-Rice Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 7 p.m. Rev. Keith Schreffler will officiate. Those in attendance must wear a mask.

A private burial will be in Coventry Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
