Eugene K. “Gene” Baker

Eugene K. “Gene” Baker, 76, of Andrews, IN, and formerly of Sterling, IL, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at 5:05 p.m., at Parkview Regional Hospital.  

Mr. Baker graduated from Northside High School in 1962. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Fort Wayne Bible College and his master’s degree in divinity from Huntington College.  He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and pastored various churches in the United Brethren denomination. He was a member of Calvery Evangelical Congregational Church in Hoople, IL, and was a member of Huntington American Legion Post No. 7 and the National Rifle Association.

He was born on April 25, 1944, in Fort Wayne, to Elmer E. and Eleanor Schwarz Baker. He married Bronwyn Hemmig on June 8, 1968. She preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage on Dec. 13, 2020.

Survivors include three brothers, Steve (Donna) Baker, of Huntertown, Mike (Jackie) Baker, of Leo, and Tom (Susan) Baker, of Nolansville, TN; and a brother-in-law, Dave Lauer, of Andrews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m., in Riverside Cemetery, Andrews. Rev. Barry Faucett will officiate.
