Joanna “Joey” Fanning, 94, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at 5:36 a.m.
Mrs. Fanning graduated from Lebanon High School and earned a bachelor of arts from Indiana University. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was also involved in the Indiana Sorosis, Shakespeare Club and Study Club. She served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the YMCA Board. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as Sunday School Superintendent. She owned the 711 Travel Center in Huntington with her husband, Dewey Fanning, from 1980 to 2008.
She was born on Feb. 28, 1926, in Vincennes, IN, to Maurice and Chloe Walker Barr. She married D. Duain (Dewey) Fanning on June 28, 1948 in Rochester. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Nancy) Fanning, of Syracuse, and Peter (Laura) Fanning, of Bloomington; a daughter, Polly Gallagher-Heard, of Holly, MI; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Black.
There will be a private service and entombment at the Fanning Mausoleum in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, is in charge of arrangements.
