Nancy S. Smart

Nancy S. Smart, 84, of Roanoke, IN, died Monday, March 8, 2021, at 5:12 p.m., at Lutheran Hospital.

Mrs. Smart attended Huntington Catholic High School. She worked at Our Sunday Visitor, United Technology, Norwoods Nursing Center and was a cook for the Huntington County Jail. She was a private health care aide for several individuals.  She retired from American Wire Rope and Sling, of Fort Wayne. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, of Roanoke, and St. Mary's Rosary Sodality. She was a volunteer for Right to Life and Ramblin Rose.

She was born on July 25, 1936, in Huntington, to Norbert and Garnet Fulton Bickel. She married Victor "Leroy" Smart on Feb. 8, 2018, in Roanoke. He survives in Roanoke.

Additional survivors include five daughters, Kimerly Slone, of Melvin, KY, Karla (Jim) Evertt, of Tampa, FL, Karri (Mike) Davis, of Huntington, Pat (Gary) Johnson, of Huntington, and Elaine (Fred) Best, of Roanoke; five sons, Kris (Betty) Burnau, of Andrews, Dick Smart, of Roanoke, Chris (Amy) Smart, of Roanoke, Tony (Sarah) Smart, of Huntington, and Bernie (Laura) Smart, of Roanoke; two sisters, Sondra (Carl) Ness, of Huntington, and Pam (Steve) Fleck, of Andrews; six brothers, Jim (Eve) Bickel, of Huntington, Dan (Myra) Bickel, of Huntington, Joe (Jannie) Bickel, Pat (Martha) Bickel, of Huntington, Mark (Debbie) Bickel, of Huntington, Fritz (Gay) Bickel, of Roanoke; 28 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Ozark Slone.

Calling will take place on Sunday, March 14, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington.  An additional calling will take place on Monday, March 15, from 9 to 10 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, with a funeral service following immediately after. Rev. Dale Bauman and Rev. Stephen Colchin will officiate. Masks and social distancing are required.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Roanoke.
