Helen Espinosa

Helen Espinosa, 89, of East Chicago, IN, and formerly of Fort Wayne, IN, died Monday, March 8, 2021, at her daughter’s residence.

Mrs. Espinosa was a graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago.   She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and earned a bachelor’s in nursing.   She also attended Calumet College and earned an Associate of Arts in social work. She volunteered for many years at Victory Noll in Huntington and was the Covenant Associate for the sisters. She was the winner of the 2008 Governor's Award Lifetime Achievement in volunteer service.  This category recognizes a long-term commitment to volunteerism and community service at a variety of levels.  She was nominated by an administrator at Victory Noll. She was a member of Guadalupana Apostoloda Association, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, East Chicago, and parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Wayne.

She was born on May 23, 1931, in East Chicago, IN, to Pedro N. and Maria DeLeon Flores.

Survivors include nine daughters, Marguerite Espinosa-Fowerbaugh, Alice Ortiz, Gloria Wells, Dolores Schroeder, Rita Roth, Yolanda Vorndran, Patricia Espinosa, Lydia Espinosa and Christina Myles; one son, Edward Espinosa; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at noon, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1101 Lafayette St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802. McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington, is in charge of arrangements.

A burial will follow at Victory Noll Cemetery, Huntington
