Joseph Mark Whinery, 72, of Wabash, IN, and with ties to Huntington County, died Monday, March 29, 2021, at 9:40 a.m., at Wellbrooke of Wabash.Mr. Whinery was a 1967 graduate of Wabash High School. He received his Bachelor’s from IPFW and his Master’s in pastoral studies from Huntington University. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after 22 1/2 years. He also pastored at the Andrews United Methodist Church for 13 years, retired from the General Studies Department at IPFW and was a delivery driver for Papa Johns Pizza in Wabash for several years. He was a member of the St. Matthews United Church of Christ and was attending Christ United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Wabash. He was born on Oct. 2, 1948, in Anderson, to Donald L. and Mary Alice DeFord Whinery. He married Linda Unger on June 22, 1969, at the St. Matthews United Church of Christ. She survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Kristine Whinery and Kaitlyn Whinery, both of Wabash; and a sister, Blythe A. Whinery, of Wabash. Calling will take place on Friday, April 2, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m., immediately followed by an Eastern Star Service, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A graveside service and burial will take place on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Falls Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wabash City School Band Department.
