Bonnie S. Ostrow

Bonnie S. Ostrow, 80, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at The Heritage of Huntington.

Ms. Ostrow was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High School and was a 1959 graduate of Carnegie College. She served on Huntington City Common Council District 4 from 1976 to 1979. She was the first woman to be elected to city council. She served as Huntington County Auditor from 1980 to 1987. She was also the first woman to be elected to serve as county auditor. She worked as a supervisor for Kelly Temporary Services from 1988 to 1990. She was a member of College Park United Brethren Church where she served as executive secretary from 1990 to 2005. She received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from Governor Otis R. Bowen for exceptional service to the citizens of Huntington. She was a former member of ABWA Huntington Chapter.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1940, in Alma, MI, to Lloyd G. and Vera M. Schoeff Caley.

Survivors include five sons, Dennis (Jamie) Ostrow, of Memphis, TN, Ronald (Mary) Ostrow, of Akron, OH, Michael (Kristina) Ostrow, of Nashville, TN, James (Lisa) Ostrow, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Chris (Missy) Ostrow, of Marion; a daughter, Melissa (Bob Frontz) Pokrzywinski, of Huntington; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Calling will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2021, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, Huntington. They will be following the CDC and state guidelines for masks, social distancing and social gathering limits.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, May 24, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
