Doris J. Thompson

Doris J. Thompson, 89, of Huntington, IN, died on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 7:40 p.m.

Mrs. Thompson’s family owned and operated the R & D Hobby Shop for many years, and they sold the business in 1982. She worked as a program aid for Green Thumb from 1993 to 1997. She was a member of the Majenica Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. In 1988 she became a charter member of Cornerstone Alliance Church in Roanoke. She taught Sunday School for many years and several different Bible studies.

She was born on Thursday, Nov. 5, 1931, in Lancaster Township, to Franklin C. and Helen B. Welker Lahr. She was later adopted by her step-father Russell R. Wells. She married Roger G. Thompson on Aug. 2, 1949, in Mt. Etna. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2020.

Survivors include three daughters, Venus (M. Dennis) Hay, of Huntington, Debora (Frank) Barth, of Lagro, and Pamela (Dana) Pegg, of Marion; a son, Gary (Mary Ostman) Thompson, of Huntington; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Rodney) Tinsman, of Lagro, Daniel (Nicole) Barth, of Peru, Joe (Holly) Thompson, of Huntington, Phillip (Julia) Thompson, of Valdosta, GA, Kevin (Melissa) Thompson, of Columbia City, Jessica (John) Brewer, of Huntington, Sarah (Peter) Hofstetter, of Indianapolis, Aaron (Michelle) Pegg, of Gaylord, MI, Laura (Peter) West, of Charleston, SC, and Rachel (Eric) Dice, of Las Vegas, NV; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen D. Jones, a grandson, Christopher Pegg, and a foster son, Terry Joe Bovinet.

Calling will take place on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cornerstone Alliance Church, 5833E-900N, Roanoke. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11 a.m., at the church. There will be one hour of calling prior to the service. Rev. Rick Harris and Rev. M. Dennis Hay will officiate.

Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery.
