Hazel I. Simon

Hazel I. Simon, 86, of Roanoke, IN, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Simon graduated from Roanoke High School in 1942. She was a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, where she played piano for Sunday services for many years. She was a homemaker and worked at the Roanoke Drug Store for many years.

She was born May 25, 1924, in Huntington to Melvin and Edna Rupert Hoover. She married Rex A. Simon on Nov. 5, 1943, in Andrews. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (James) Hull, of O'Fallon, MO; a brother, Eugene E. Hoover, of Centreville, VA; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, July 9, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, 880E-1100N, Huntington. Rev. Marvin Grooms will officiate. Interment will be at the Pleasant Chapel Cemetery.
