Betty J. Voght

Betty J. Voght, 88, of Hartford City, IN, and with family ties to Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at 4:45 a.m., at Millers Merry Manor in Hartford City.

Mrs. Voght was a 1952 graduate of Eaton High School. She attended Union Chapel Ministries. She was a Jackson Township farm wife and had formerly worked at Pennville Custom Cabinets in Pennville. She taught Sunday school at Millgrove U.M.C., was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother.

She was born on Thursday, Jan. 5, 1933, in Jay County, to Frederick and Hattie Summerfield Besser. She married Walter R. Voght on Tuesday, April 29, 1952, in Hartford City. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Samuel David (Donna) Voght, of Portland, and Timothy Ryan Voght, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Julie (Stuart) Terrell, of Hartford City; a son-in-law, James Stephenson, of Dunkirk; two brothers, Larry Besser, of Muncie, and Dannie (Carla) Besser, of Yorktown; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Stephenson, of Alexandria, VA, Matthew (Mandy) Stephenson, of Huntington, Molly Robbins, of Portland, Adam (MaryBeth) Voght, of Craigville, Jill Robinson, of Portland, LeAnn (Jonathan) Newlin, of Indianapolis, Brittany (Brandon) Charnley, of Hartford City, Betsy (Cory) Kausch, of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Gene) Hummel, of Portland, James Stephenson, of Redkey, and Joshua (Jennifer) Stephenson, of Albany; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Calling took place on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier.

A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Troy Kaufman officiating.  

Interment will follow in the Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dunkirk.
