Elizabeth “Betty” Lea Kiningham

Elizabeth “Betty” Lea Kiningham, 90, of Fort Wayne, IN, and with ties to Roanoke, IN, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.

Mrs. Kiningham graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1948 and Trinity College in San Antonio, TX, in 1952, with a Bachelor of Arts in music. She taught band in Texas for a time and also played organ and piano music for many churches throughout her life. She volunteered with the Red Cross for 10 years.

She was born Geraldine Cartwright on April 8, 1931, in Hidalgo County, TX, to Katherine Cartwright and Grover Goodwin. She was adopted by Julia Caldwell of Corpus Christi, TX, and became Elizabeth Lea Caldwell. She married Edward “Ed” Eugene Kiningham on Nov. 2, 1956, in Corpus Christi, TX. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas Edward Kiningham, of Macon, GA, David Allen (Mary) Kiningham, of Fort Wayne, Paul Byron (Mary Ann) Kiningham, of Roanoke, and John Michael (Rachel) Kiningham, of Houston, TX; a daughter, Ann Elizabeth (Ricky) Phillips, of Fulton, MO; 17 grandchildren, Mary Beth (Chris) Wood, Jonathan Kiningham, Julia (Jack) Giannini, Clay (Anna Belle) Kiningham, Daniel Kiningham, Rachel (Dan) Schwartz, Kyle (Michelle) Kiningham, Alan (Leslie) Kiningham, Sarah (Greg) Johnson, Hannah Kiningham, Martha (Trace) Shroyer, Grant Kiningham, Nathan Kiningham, Caleb Kiningham, Seth Kiningham, Ashley Kiningham and Levi Kiningham; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., at North Park Community Church, 7160 Flutter Road, Fort Wayne, with a funeral service to follow at noon.

Burial will take place on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at 9 a.m., at Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Vertical Life Church in Cypress, TX (John Kiningham, Rev.), Brookside Church Missions Group, Fort Wayne, or the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
