R.C. "Doc" Poppy, 89, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at 3:43 a.m., at Heritage Pointe of Warren.
Mr. Poppy graduated from New Diggings High School and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University. He was the owner of Hillside Veterinary Clinic, retiring in 2004 after 50 years of service. He was a member of the American Veterinary Association and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association.
He was born on April 25, 1932, in Rockford, IL, to Charles and Mona Peacock Poppy. He married Margaret J. Shultz on May 25, 1967, in Clintwood, VA. She preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage.
Survivors include four sisters, Susan (Jack) McCoy, of Madison, WI, Ruth (Chet) Melcher, of Racine, WI, Lois (Tim) Martinson, of DeWitt, MI, and Connie (Don) Eckelbarger, of Loves Park, IL; and a brother, Allen (MaryAnn) Poppy, of Shullsburg, WI.
Calling will take place on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, immediately followed by a funeral service at the funeral home.
