Paul E. Hirschy

Paul E. Hirschy, 75, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at his home.

Mr. Hirschy graduated from Adams Central High School in 1964. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (1968) and Master of Divinity (1972) from Huntington College. For more than four decades, he served in various roles for the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. He was pastor of Park U.B. Church in Bluffton for nine years and director of the Department of Church Services for 20 years before leading the denomination as bishop of the U.S. National Conference from 2001 to 2005. He subsequently worked for Huntington University in the advancement office and most recently was an associate pastor for College Park U.B. Church in Huntington. In September, he received Huntington University’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

He was born on July 16, 1946, in Adams County, to Noah and Melvena Hirschy. He married Barbara A. Newton Hirschy on June 21, 1969. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Jason (Ali) Hirschy, of Thornton, CO; two daughters, Heather (Nathan) Gonzales, of Washington, D.C., and Amber (Varun) Kaushik, of Alexandria, VA; two sisters, Carolyn Girod, of Decatur, and Helen (Larry) Funk, of Mesa, AZ; a brother, Richard (Inez) Hirschy, of Monroe; a brother-in-law, Wayne Byerly, of Decatur, seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Calling will take place on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at 11 a.m., at College Park Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington. Bishop Todd Fetters will officiate. The service will also be streamed online. A link will be available at myersfuneralhomes.com the morning of the funeral.

Burial will follow at Ray Cemetery outside of Monroe, with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m.
